G.A.T.E. /HONORS
- G.A.T.E. classes are designed to challenge the academically
gifted and stimulate the high achiever.
- Students
placed in the Alpha classes must meet criteria established by
Salida Middle School.
- To
qualify for G.A.T.E. placement, a student must test in the 95th
percentile or above on the total battery of the State test and/or
test 125 or above on the Otis-Lennon School Abilities Index.
- For
information on testing for G.A.T.E. placement, contact the Salida
Union School District Curriculum Office at 545-0339.
- Alpha
criteria is also based on continuous enrollment in Alpha, a priority
number established by State subtest scores, total battery test
score of recent State tests, and teacher recommendation.
- The
Honors Program is designed to challenge students who have a strong
desire to learn. It sets high standards for academic excellence,
personal behavior, and social responsibility. The program is open
to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.
Placement
in the G.A.T.E. Program will require students and parents to sign and
adhere to an academic and behavioral contract. This is to ensure
that the students, with parental support, maintain responsibility
for behavioral and academic success. If difficulties arise within
the classroom, the teachers will follow their classroom rules. If
the difficulties continue, the parents must attend a conference
which will include administration, teachers, and the student. At
this time, the student will be placed on Alpha probation. If problems
persist, the student may be removed from the G.A.T.E. Program.
